About the Project:
I created a Matte Painting for the Green Mountain Coffee brand using 2D images and a 3D camera in After Effects. I wanted to create a short story bringing the viewer into the world where their coffee is grown. I utilized product imagery and slogans to align with the larger brand identity.
Accomplishments:
Visual Design: I stuck to the outdoor feel that Green Mountain presents on there website and ads. I used fonts found on their website and products. Utilizing adjustment layers and levels, I enhanced the lighting and environment to create one cohesive scene.
Brand Alignment: I aligned the scenery to the outdoor and rugged look of the mountains found on Green Mountain products.
Point of Pride: Details matter. The shadow under the font, the swaying of individual leaves in the wind, and the adjusting focus are the difference between watching a video and being immersed in Green Mountain Coffee world.
I used the puppet tool to create movements in the leaves and added shadows using a shape tool with feathering to allow for a soft outer shadow. I had so much fun creating this video and love the idea of Matte Paintings. I hope to make more in the future!
MY SKETCH
I started with a simple idea and I knew I wanted the viewer outdoors in the wilderness. I wanted to match the branding on the coffee bag and decided I'd have the viewer coming through the woods like they're on a trail. I slowly transitioned from bushier foliage to a more tropical forest. I inspected their website and later picked the font they use for sub headers and brought in a slogan they use for their coffee.
